Guatemala's Sofia Rodriguez continued her impressive form in the International Bowling Federation (IBF) Super World Championships in Dubai to advance to the women's singles semi-finals.

Rodriguez scored 248 points to get the better of Missy Parkin of the United States, who put up 228.

The Guatemalan was on for a perfect game after bowling seven strikes in a row but narrowly missed out on an eighth after knocking down nine pins on her eighth attempt and settling for a spare.

Another spare followed before she capped off an excellent performance with another strike in the 10th frame.

The result leaves Rodriguez up against Shayna Ng of Singapore who narrowly beat Malaysia's Natasha Roslan.

In the other half of the bracket, Canada's Sarah Klassen and Cherie Tan of Singapore complete the final four after wins against Americans Kelly Kulick and Danielle McEwan, respectively.

The men's draw saw Tomas Käyhkö advance in an all-Finland affair against Niko Oksanen.

Käyhkö had notched up 228 points by the 10th frame which was an unsurmountable target for Oksanen on 164 points.

The 24-year-old awaits South Korea's Ji Geun in the semi-final, after Ji put 247 points on Rafiq Ismail of Malaysia.

Swedish sensation James Blomgren booked his place in the next round after demolishing Kristopher Prather of the US 288-215.

Italian Nicola Pongolini will play in the last semi-final against Blomgren following his convincing win versus AJ Johnson of the US.

The men's and women's singles semi-finals are set to take place on Saturday (November 12).

The action continues tomorrow at the Dubai International Bowling Centre with the men's and women's trios qualification, round of 16 and quarter-finals.
