Mitro and Marojevic had impressed in the group stage of the tournament at the Municipal Sports and Recreation Center in Chełm, with the duo winning four consecutive matches.

The Serbians eliminated local competitors Adrian Duszak and Bartlomiej Franczuk in straight sets in the quarter-finals, before overcoming beating Hungary’s Adam Bako and Barna Kovacsfi in the same manner in the last four.

Further Hungarian opposition awaited in the final in the form of Csaba Banyik and Adam Blazsovics.

The pairing had won five consecutive matches in straight sets, before a closely contested three set semi-final win over France’s Julien Grondin and Hugo Rabeux.

Mitro and Marojevic claimed the opening set of the final 12-7, only for their rivals to win the second by the same scoreline.

The deciding set proved a one-sided affair, with Mitro and Marojevic winning the set 12-4 to claim the title.

Grondin and Rabeux rounded off the podium places after the French team won a closely contested bronze medal match 8-12, 12-8, 13-11 against Bako and Kovacsfi.

The event proved a successful one for Mitro, with the Serbian player also able to celebrate victory in the mixed doubles competition.

He advanced to the final with compatriot Maja Umicevic, where they faced competition from Banyik and Zsanett Janicsek, the world number one ranked team.

Mitro and Umicevic triumphed in two close games 12-11, 12-9.

Hungary’s Blazsovics and Lea Vasas won the bronze medal match 12-6, 12-11 against Marojevic and Anastasija Lemajic of Serbia.
