The Volunteer Programme for 2022 International University Sports Federation (FISU) Championships and University World Cups has opened.

Open to students across the globe eager to add organisational and logistical skills and experience to their resumes, the Volunteer Programme, which is run by FISU, is now accepting applications, where students have the opportunity to work with the respective Organising Committees of the events.

"Sport and education have been at the forefront of FISU’s main mission since its founding," said FISU secretary general and chief executive Eric Saintrond.

"Volunteering opportunities like this provide students with practical experience behind the scenes with event organisers, adding to their skillset, enhancing an existing skill or even inspiring them to take on a new career path in the field of sport and education."

For Championships and World Cup events that are due to take place between February and April 2022, applications must be made by the end of the year - for events between June and August 2022, by April 30 2022, and for between September and November 2022, by July 30 2022.

There are 17 FISU Championships scheduled for 2022, including in sport climbing, beach volleyball and modern pentathlon.

Nine FISU World Cups are due to take place in 2022, including in 3x3 basketball, cheerleading, floorball and handball.

The 2021 FISU calendar was badly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, including the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games delayed until 2022.

Lucerne 2021 Winter Universiade was also pushed back from January to December 2021 and is set to be the first major FISU sports event following the breakout of coronavirus in March 2020.
