Martin Fuchs of Switzerland won the latest round of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Jumping World Cup Western European League in Lyon, winning an 11 horse jump-off onboard 14-year-old stallion Chaplin.

Fuchs completed the jump-off course in 34.50 seconds with no faults, with Eduardo Pereira De Menezes of Brazil onboard H5 Chaganus second with a time of 35.14 in the jump-off, also with no faults.

Third place went to Austrian rider Max Kuhner, onboard Elektric Blue P, in a time of 35.87, after a clear jump-off round.

Four riders finished the jump-off with four faults - Britain’s Holly Smith riding Denver, Germany’s Daniel Deusser on Killer Queen VDM, Edward Levy of France on Rebeca LS and Kevin Jochems of the Netherlands, who won the opening round of the Western European League season in Oslo, riding Turbo Z.

Three riders finished the jump-off with eight faults - Argentina’s José María Larocca riding Finn Lente, Steve Guerdat of Switzerland onboard Victorio des Frotards and Denis Lynch of Ireland riding Cristello.

The other rider involved in the jump-off was Bryan Balsiger of Switzerland onboard AK’s Courage, who placed 11th after recording 12 faults.

The first leg of the FEI Driving World Cup season also took place in Lyon today, with nine-time World Cup champion and current world champion Boyd Exell of Australia, negotiating a course featuring a bridge and two sets of marathon boxes, without any penalties to triumph in a drive-off in 144.83 seconds.

Dries Degrieck of Belgium claimed second place in a time of 147.62, completing the course without any penalties.

Third place went to the remaining drive-off rider, Koos De Ronde of the Netherlands in 149.54, with De Ronde’s drive hampered after he hit a marathon box, picking up penalties and losing time in the process.

Glenn Geerts of Belgium finished fourth, with wildcard driver Jérôme Voutaz of Switzerland in fifth.

The second round of the FEI Driving World Cup season is scheduled to take place in Stockholm, Sweden from November 25 to 28.
