Brazil has announced that its men's and women's volleyball head coaches will remain in charge until the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Zé Roberto will keep his role with the women's side as he bids to steer a fourth Brazilian team to an Olympic gold medal.

He guided the men's side to glory at Barcelona 1992 and repeated the trick with the women's squad back-to-back, at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

The 67-year-old has been at the helm of the women's side since 2003 so his extension until 2024 will take his reign past two decades.

Olympic success has been backed up by nine Grand Prix wins and 10 South American titles.

Brazil also won silver at Tokyo 2020 after losing the final to the United States.

"It is a new challenge, with a three-year cycle and with great expectations," said Zé Roberto, whose full name is Jose Roberto Guimaraes.

"In Tokyo we were happy because we reached an Olympic final and a significant podium finish.

"We have several tournaments before the Games in Paris and we have to pay attention to next year's World Cup and Volleyball Nations League.

"It will be three years of hard work, with a lot of expectations and preparations.

"I'm proud to represent my country, it is the dream of every coach, athlete and manager.

"It's a responsibility I already understand, but there are always new butterflies in my stomach, new expectations.

"Of course, it's a great honour."

Renan Dal Zotto will stay at the helm of the men's side after first taking the job in 2017.

Brazil won the World Cup in 2019 under the 61-year-old's watch, as well as the World Grand Champions Cup in 2017 and three South American titles.

The country missed out at Tokyo 2020, however, losing the bronze medal match to regional rivals Argentina as they failed to defend their Rio 2016 crown.

"We have a shorter cycle, starting with the World Championship next year, which is very important," said Dal Zotto, who won a silver medal as a player at Los Angeles 1984.

"We will have the Volleyball Nations League, in which we can place athletes and this is important for this new cycle.

"We will do all the work to reach the best possible level for the 2024 Games."

Brazilian Volleyball Federation (CBV) chief executive Adrian Behar welcomed the two appointments.

"We are very happy to have Jose Roberto Guimaraes and Renan Dal Zotto for another Olympic cycle," he said.

"They are two leaders who can keep Brazil among the best teams in the world and play fundamental roles in the development of new talents.

"The CBV has a long-term vision and their work will also include looking after younger players."
