Anton Siekel has been re-elected President of the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee (SOŠV) after standing unopposed at the COVID-19-delayed General Assembly in Bratislava.

Siekel was elected to the position in 2016 and had his first term extended until this year because of the coronavirus pandemic, which forced a delay to the elections.

He received 108 out of the 122 votes available at the General Assembly.

Siekel will serve a three-year term through to after the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The Slovak official succeeded František Chmelár as SOŠV President five years ago after winning a four-way vote that also included Branislav Delej, Marian Majzlík and Milan Jagnešák.

Barteková, who failed with her bid for re-election to the Athletes' Commission and lost her IOC membership as a result, received the most votes of any candidate on 105.

The 36-year-old had served on the SOŠV Executive Committee in an ex-officio capacity due to her role with the IOC, but will now be a full member of the ruling body.

SOŠV vice-president Peter Korčok, the head of the Slovak Athletic Association, was also re-elected.

Three-time Olympic biathlon gold medallist Anastasiya Kuzmina, Slovak Karate Association President Daniel Líška and Olympic race walk gold medallist Matej Tóth were all elected to the Executive Committee in the first round of voting.

The IOC had told National Olympic Committees with elections last year to either reschedule them or hold the vote virtually because of restrictions imposed to combat COVID-19.
