Russia won five gold medals on the opening day of the World Youth and Junior Sambo Championships in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Russia won two golds in the women’s youth events with gold in the under-47 kilograms category going to Sofia Emeliukova.

Silver in the category went to Ezoza Abdumuminova of Uzbekistan, with bronzes going to Yaryna Fedorchenko of Ukraine and Anat Tsyrlin of the United States.

Russia’s second gold of the day in the women’s youth disciplines went to Anastasiia Trofimova, who won the 54kg category.

Palina Burachkova of Belarus took silver, with bronze medals won by Anastasiia Sykish of Ukraine and Shakhzoda Azatova of Uzbekistan.

Russia won both men’s junior categories contested on the opening day, with gold in the 98kg going to Iosif Simin.

Mikita Besman of Belarus took the silver, with bronze medals going to Stanislav Banchuk of Israel and Murod Erkinov of Uzbekistan.

In the men’s over-98kg category, Ivan Shavolin won Russia’s fourth gold of the day, with silver going to Davit Harutyunyan of Armenia.

The bronze medals went to Daniel Ursu of Moldova and Dilrukh Asledinov of Uzbekistan.

Russia’s fifth gold of the day came in one of two junior women’s categories contested, with Daria Rechkalova winning the 80kg.

Valeriia Zakharevych of Ukraine won the silver medal, with the two bronzes going to Milica Cvijic of Serbia and Palina Hramatneva of Belarus.

Elsewhere on the opening day in Thessaloniki in the men’s youth disciplines, gold in the men’s 53kg went to Egambergan Iskandarov of Uzbekistan.

Silver went to Sahib Babayev of Azerbaijan, with the bronze medals awarded to Aldiyar Kargulov of Kazakhstan and Artem Horban of Ukraine.

In the men’s 58kg gold went to Aman Bakytzhan of Kazakhstan with silver won by Maksym Babych of Ukraine.

Bronze medals went to Ali Hajiyev of Azerbaijan and Ashik Andreyan of Armenia.

In the men’s 64kg gold went to Armenia’s Mesrop Nikoyan, with silver won by Azamat Biev of Russia.

The two bronze medals went to Bekhruz Amonov of Uzbekistan and Uladzislau Mardusevich of Belarus.

The remaining category decided in the women’s youth disciplines was the 50kg, won by Gulkhayo Juraeva of Uzbekistan.

Russia’s Kristina Dudina won the silver medal, with bronzes going to Stella Maria Takantzia of Greece and Yana Voloshyniuk of Ukraine.

The remaining category in the women’s junior disciplines decided today was the over-80kg, with gold going to Bianca-Elena Prodan of Romania.

Silver went to Iuliia Kalgina of Russia, with bronze medals going to Nurila Assanykyzy of Kazakhstan and Anastasiya Hryshchanka of Belarus.

The second day tomorrow is scheduled to see ten more categories decided - in the youth events in the women’s 59, 65 and 72kg, and 71, 79 and 88kg in the men’s.

Junior action is scheduled to take place in the women’s 50 and 54kg categories and the men’s 58 and 64kg.
