Tony Martin completed his road cycling career with another time trial title as Germany won the mixed relay event at the World Road Cycling Championships in Flanders, Belgium.

The discipline, making only its second appearance in the championships 100-year history, saw three men ride 22.5 kilometres from Knokke-Heist to Bruges, before three women rode 22km around Bruges.

Germany’s team featuring Martin, Niklas Arndt, Maximilian Walscheid, Lisa Brennauer, Lisa Klein and Mieke Kroger clocked 50min 49.10sec as they took gold, to enable Martin to finish his career in fitting style.

The victory for Germany saw Martin end his career with a haul of four individual time trial World Championship titles and four team time trial world titles.
