It was a French double at the second event of the 2021 KiteFoil World Series in Traunsee in Austria as Axel Mazella clinched gold in the men's and Lauriane Nolot in the women's.

The Formula Kite European champion Mazella was consistent throughout, delivering three finishes in seven of the eight races to finish on 45.0 points.

His compatriot Theo de Ramecourt finished a close second after winning the third, fourth and fifth races, while Britain's Connor Bainbridge came third.

Russia's Denis Taradin won the first event of this year's World Series in Gizzeria in Italy and triumphed in the first race, but just missed out on the podium this time around as he finished fourth.

Florian Gruber of Germany was fifth, while victory in the final race in Traunsee saw Croatia's Martin Dolenc finish sixth.

The athletes all competed in one fleet, but it was Nolot who came out on top overall with 82.0 points.

Her nearest challenger was fellow French athlete Jessie Kampman, while Poema Newland - the newly crowned Formula Kite European champion - also of France, came third.

This was the second leg of the 2021 KiteFoil World Series and had 300 points up for grabs.

It returns to Italy from October 6 to 10 in Cagliari for the only five-star event of the year, which has 500 points as well as €25,000 (£21,300/$29,300) on offer.

The World Series then draws to a close with two four-star events in Spain at the end of November and start of December in Jandia and Maspalomas, both of which will be contested for 400 points and €15,000 (£12,800/$17,600).
