Organised by the International Military Sports Council (CISM), competition is scheduled to run until September 25.

Almost 300 athletes are to compete in 10 men's weight classes and five women's categories.

Preliminary competition is to be held at the CSKA Sports Complex and the finals at the VTB Arena.

In May, the International Boxing Federation (AIBA) and CISM signed a collaboration deal to work closely together.

"We fully support CISM in developing boxing in the military," said AIBA President Umar Kremlev.

"This is the sport for brave and strong. 

"Everybody knows that the military protects people worldwide. 

"I truly believe that any conflicts should be resolved within competitions, on the ring, not the other way. 

"I am happy to see how boxing is developing among the military and looking forward to seeing the success of the Championships."

All competition will be broadcast on AIBA's YouTube channel.

World champion Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil is to compete in the women's under-60 kilogram category, while her compatriots and fellow Tokyo 2020 Olympians Wanderson de Oliveira, Keno Machado and Abner Teixeira are all set to feature.

The hosts are led by world champion Ekaterina Paltceva in the women's under-51kg; other medal contenders include Vadim Musaev, Aleksei Semykin, Ivan Sagaidak and Svetoslav Teterin.

Temirtas Zhussupov, Aslanbek Shymbergenov and Damir Toibay are all part of a solid Kazakhstan team, and Mongolia's Enkhmandakh Kharkhuu is one of the favourites in the men's under-52kg.

Uzbekistan's Shunkor Abdurasulov and Lazizbek Mullojonov are their country's brightest performers, with 25-year-old Dzmitry Asanau of Belarus set to compete men's under-64kg.
