Britain's John Gimson and Anna Burnet extended their lead in the Nacra 17 class at the European Championship in Thessaloniki in Greece, following two wins on the third day of competition.

Wins in round seven and nine - as well as a discarded sixth place finish in round eight - brought the pair on to a net total of 11 points.

This extends their lead over closest chasers Gianluigi Ugolini and Alice Cialfi of Italy, who finished second twice as well as sixth, but they were unable to discard this result.

They are now on a net total of 26, 13 in front of Sweden's Ida Svensson and Marcus Dackhammar, who finished in the top five for the sixth race in a row.

Svensson and Dackhammar overtook two French teams to move into third and now sit narrowly in front of them.

Titouan Petard and Lou Berthomieu are fourth, after they were forced to discard a 14th place finish, while Margaux Billy and Leo Maurin are in fifth, partly helped by a win in round eight.

Sisters Antonia and Victoria Schultheis of Malta are in the lead in the 49erFX class, despite a difficult round eight, where they finished 20th.

It was their most difficult day so far, having a best finish of fourth today and now sit on a net total of 39.

Moving into second were Croatians Enia Nincevic and Mihaela de Micheli Vitturi who won the seventh race, followed by two third-place finishes to make them the in-form pair on 52 points.

Lara Granier and Amelie Riou of France won the eighth race, but a disqualification in race nine stopped their chase after the Maltese pair and finishing day three on 57.

The final race of the day was won by The Netherlands' Svea Karsenbarg and Cecile Janmaat, who are down in 17th.

Łukasz Przybytek and Paweł Kolodzinski of Poland hold a lead of just one point in the 49er class with a net total of 22.

Finishing second, fifth and a discarded ninth, they hold a slender gap to Germany's Tim Fischer and Fabian Graf who finished on all spots of the podium in all three races, including winning race nine.

Although still far behind on a net total of 35, another Polish pair Mikolaj Staniul and Kuba Sztorch, had a solid day with wins in races seven and eight, as well as an eighth-place finish in their last.
