Men’s, women’s and mixed relays and men’s and women’s individual finals are set to take place in both under-17 and under-19 categories.

Around 130 competitors from 24 countries are set to line-up at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport Campus, for an event that was originally scheduled for July this year, before being pushed back.

These are set to be the first UIPM Youth World Championships since the edition held in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2019.

Hosts Egypt are sending a team of 11 women and nine men with Malak Ismail the nation’s best hope in the women’s event.

Lucie Hlavackova of the Czech Republic and Mira Buraya of Belarus arrive in Alexandria in form after finishing first and second respectively at the UIPM Youth European Championships in Portugal for under-17s.

In the men’s competition Russia are expected to feature strongly with Egor Zorkin and Timofei Popov among their leading contenders.

UIPM President Klaus Schormann said: "I am happy to welcome the youth of the world to the UIPM 2021 Youth (U19 and U17) World Championships, here in Alexandria.

"In the next days, the athletes from 25 nations will have the chance to compete in the wonderful facilities at the Arab Academy For Science, Technology and Maritime Transport campus.

"I would like to extend my thanks to the team of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation who, under the leadership of my dear friend Sharif El-Erian, will make this competition come true.

"This competition is a message for the future as we are celebrating the first major pentathlon event after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with our next generation of athletes.

"I hope that, whilst competing, the athletes find the time to build ever-lasting friendships and open their minds to the different cultures from around the world.

"This competition and the performances coming with it wouldn't be possible without the work of the trainers and of the wider modern pentathlon movement and family who are supporting the athletes and allowing them to compete."

Competition is set to begin tomorrow with the under-19 men’s relay, followed by the under-19 women’s relay on Tuesday (September 14), and the under-19 mixed relay on Wednesday (September 15).

The under-17 women’s final is set to take place on the same day, with the under-17 men’s final set to follow on Thursday (September 16).

The under-17 women’s relay is set for Friday (September 17), followed by the under-17 men’s relay on Saturday (September 18) and the under-17 mixed relay on Sunday (September 19).

Meanwhile, the under-19 women’s and men’s finals are due to take place on September 18 and 19 respectively.
