Scotland are Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Cup of Darts champions for the second time after Peter Wright and John Henderson saw off all challengers at Sparkassen Arena in Jena.

The Scots beat two of the three top sees today before defeating first-time finalists Austria to win the trophy.

Austria had dumped out top seeds England in dominant fashion in the semi-finals, but let a lead slip against Scotland and ultimately finished second at the German venue.

The day began with another come-from-behind victory for Scotland, versus The Netherlands in the quarter-finals.

World number two Michael van Gerwen beat Henderson 4-1, but Wright defeated Dirk van Duijvenbode by the same scoreline to set up a doubles decider.

The decider went to a sudden-death seventh leg and when "MVG" was unable to take out 147 it gave Henderson three darts to score 64 - and he duly hit tops at the second attempt to send Scotland through.

Defending champions Wales awaited in the final four and it was a case of a different route to the same destination.

Henderson beat world champion Gerwyn Price 4-2 first up, despite Price having a three-dart average above 103 and producing eight perfect darts at one stage, before Jonny Clayton beat Wright 4-2.

The doubles decider again went to a seventh leg, where Henderson hit double 18 at the first time of asking to secure a Scottish victory - and his first-ever appearance in the final of a televised PDC tournament.

Austrians Mensur Suljovic and Rowby-John Rodriguez meanwhile respectively beat English top seeds James and Dave Chisnall 4-1 to reach the final with a landslide win.

The superb Suljovic had a three-dart average north of 109.

Austria had earlier survived Northern Ireland's Brendan Dolan missing three match darts in their quarter-final.

Suljovic delivered he goods first up in the final, beating Henderson 4-1, but Wright responded with a 4-1 triumph over Rodriguez.

Scotland then survived five match points in the doubles encounter to take the final lead and move one victory from the World Cup title.

Wright delivered that win, overcoming a wobble where he missed five title darts to beat Suljovic 4-3 and win the World Cup for the second time.

It is Henderson's first World Cup triumph, as Gary Anderson was partnered with Wright when Scotland won in 2019.
