Angola beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 73-58 in Kigali to keep their AfroBasket campaign alive and eliminate the opposition.

The result left both teams with one win and four points at the conclusion of Group A, but the Angolans' superior head-to-head record sent them on to the knockout rounds.

Cape Verde - who lost to DR Congo earlier in the competition - topped the group at Kigali Arena thanks to beating hosts Rwanda 82-74.

Joel Almeida and Fidel Mendonça each scored 16 points in the winning effort.

Group winners advance to the quarter-finals, while second- and third-place finishers head to the first knockout round.

Rwanda will play Guinea, who today overcame Egypt 86-78 for a first win of the tournament and to finish third in Group B.

Egypt were second, so await Angola.

Defending champions Tunisia defeated the Central African Republic 68-51 in Group B's other match, cementing top spot with a perfect record.
