France upset Belgium as Italy completed their pool stage campaign with a 100 per cent record at the Women's EuroVolley tournament.

France secured third place in Pool A with a surprise 27-25, 13-25, 25-19, 25-20 success at Štark Arena in Belgrade.

Victory saw them finish behind Russia, who swept aside Bosnia and Herzegovina 25-12, 25-20, 25-19 in their last pool game, and runaway leaders Serbia in the group.

Defeat for Belgium consigns them to a tougher round-of-16 clash as they will take on Italy, who made it five wins from five after overcoming Switzerland in straight sets at Dvorana Krešimir Ćosić in Zadar.

The 25-17, 25-18, 27-25 win for Italy, bronze medallists at the 2019 edition of the continental tournament, over Switzerland saw them top Pool C in front of Croatia, Belarus and Hungary.

Belarus claimed third in the pool thanks to a marathon five-set win in their clash with Slovakia.

Today brought the pool stage at the pan-continental event to a close and the round-of-16 line-up has now been confirmed.

Bulgaria take on Sweden and The Netherlands play Germany on Saturday (August 28).

Defending champions and Olympic bronze medallists Serbia, who also went unbeaten in the first phase of the competition, entertain Hungary on Sunday (August 29), when Turkey meet the Czech Republic, Poland face Ukraine and Croatia go up against Spain.

Italy's match with Belgium and the encounter between Russia and Belarus are scheduled for Monday (August 30).
