Organisers of the Argentine Sports Schools (EDAS) programme have held a handball seminar as part of a project with a focus on the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

Coaches, leaders, sports leaders, teachers and advanced students of physical education were invited to attend the seminar.

Speakers during the seminar included Juan Manuel de Armas, head coach of Handball EDA and Leticia Brunati, beach handball coordinator for ENARD (National Body of High Sports Performance) in the Dakar 2026 project.

The EDAS programme aims to maintain and promote the practising of sport in boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 17.

EDAS reaches around 30,500 participants across 60 sports.

Further seminars are set to take place later this month and in September, with a focus on sports development in the training stages, for boys aged between 11 and 15.

Dakar 2026 is scheduled to be the fourth edition of the Summer Youth Olympic Games. It was due to take place in 2022 but was postponed by four years as a result of the disruption to the sporting calendar caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

At the 2018 Youth Olympics held in Buenos Aires hosts Argentina enjoyed success in the beach handball competition - winning gold in the girls tournament and bronze in the boys event.
