The giant, two-sided video board at SoFi Stadium - a key venue for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics and Paralympics - has been given an official name, "The Infinity Screen by Samsung".

Samsung - a member of the International Olympic Committee's flagship The Olympic Partner (TOP) sponsorship programme - says the screen is the largest ever created for a sporting venue and features the most LEDs ever used in a sports or entertainment complex.

The name is said to be inspired by Samsung's rich history in producing bazel-free displays - screens which appear not to have a frame - as well as the SoFi Stadium video board's shape.

"It's been a long time coming, but we are so proud to announce The Infinity Screen by Samsung," said Mark Quiroz, vice-president of Samsung Electronics America's display division.

"SoFi Stadium is one of the NFL's crown jewels and it has been a privilege and an honor to work with the team on this project.

"We are incredibly excited to see fans engage with the Infinity Screen in-person for the first time."

Hollywood Park, the sports and leisure complex built around SoFi Stadium, will also feature Samsung technology to enhance the fan experience, it is promised.

SoFi Stadium is expected to host elements of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, as well as football and archery events.

Costing an estimated $5 billion (£3.8 billion/€4.5 billion), SoFi Stadium opened in 2020 and is home to two National Football League (NFL) teams - the Los Angeles Rams and their tenant, the Los Angeles Chargers.

Both played at the venue last NFL season, but without fans present due to the coronavirus pandemic.

SoFi Stadium could be used during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico, and is set to host Super Bowl LVI in February 2022 and the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in January 2023.
