The Global Champions Tour (GCT) continues tomorrow from the Sommergarten Arena at the Funkturm in Berlin, which is hosting the eighth leg of the 2021 series.

Frontrunner Edwina Tops-Alexander will be looking to extend her three-point lead at the top of the table, despite a strong international field including 49-year-old Swede Peder Fredricson who is hot on her tail.

Tops-Alexander is due to be the only Australian rider in action.

The German event will be the last competitive preparation opportunity for many athletes before the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Tops-Alexander, Ben Maher and Scott Brash are all seeking to make history this season as the first rider to win three GCT championships.

As Britons Maher and Brash, who sit in third and fourth in the standings respectively, will be sitting this leg out, it is a golden opportunity for Tops-Alexander to cement herself as the best-placed athlete to win a third title.

Ludger Beerbaum, Christian Ahlmann and Christian Kukuk, will be among several German competitors hoping to get the home crowd behind them.

Irish rider Darragh Kenny won the last round in Monaco, which saw him climb to 21st position overall and qualify for the GCT Super Grand Prix in Prague in November.

Berlin was added to the GCT circuit in 2017.
