Abdulaziz Hatem gave Qatar the lead in the early stages of the Group D match at the BBVA Stadium in Houston.

Hatem jumped for a cross with Grenada goalkeeper Jason Belfon, who was unable to gather cleanly under pressure.

The ball dropped for Hatem to tap into the net after 11 minutes, while Grenada appealed in vain for a free-kick for handball.

A five-minute video assistant referee check resulted in the goal being awarded.

Belfon was left helpless for the second goal, as Akram Afif superbly curled a shot into the far corner of the net from the edge of the Grenada box.

Mohammed Muntari added Qatar’s third with a header from a corner after 36 minutes.

Qatar’s advantage could have been greater with Al Moez Ali spurning a golden chance in front of goal.

The ball was squared to Ali by Hatem and the forward composed himself, before blazing wildly over the crossbar from a matter of yards.

Ali would get on the scoresheet 35 seconds into the second half by producing a composed left-footed finish, following a cross into the six-yard box.

Qatar had further opportunities to add to their lead with Belfon producing 17 saves in the match to keep the score down.

Abdullah Al-Ahrak was also denied late on for Qatar as he struck the post.

Qatar now has four points after two games, while Grenada remains searching for their first point.

Qatar, the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts, were invited to participate at both the 2021 and 2023 Gold Cup competitions by CONCACAF last year, as part of a "major collaboration".

Qatar is one of seven nations to have competed as guests at the competition and is the second Asian country to participate after South Korea.

Honduras booked their place in the knock-out stage after overcoming Panama 3-2 for their second Group D win.

Romell Quioto gave Honduras a 22nd minute lead with a placed effort from outside the box.

Panama's Eric Davis levelled from the penalty spot, before César Yanis put them ahead in first half stoppage time by finishing a move at the far post.

Panama came under pressure at the start of the second half, with Honduras rewarded when Alexander López drove powerfully into the bottom corner after the hour mark.

Quioto finished calmly in the 65th minute to put Honduras ahead, after being sent through on goal by a raking long pass.

Honduras held on to the 3-2 advantage to seal a quarter-final spot.
