The Swiss company will be responsible for the safe and sustainable transportation, receipt and forwarding of all items needed to meet the logistical requirements of next year’s Games.

Kuehne+Nagel will use a range of eco-friendly technology systems to maintain control of the millions of sporting items and equipment pieces while advocating for green event-delivery solutions, it is claimed.

This is in line with the event's sustainability pledge to be the first-ever carbon-neutral Commonwealth Games.

Birmingham 2022 expects roughly 4,500 athletes from 72 nations and territories to compete across 19 sports across at 14 competition venues come the Games - set for July 28 to August 8.

It will be the biggest event ever held in the West Midlands, with more than a million spectators expected to come to Birmingham and a global television audience of 1.5 billion projected.

Kuehne+Nagel is also the official logistics partner for the Rugby League World Cup 2021, which will be held in England from October 23 to November 27.

During that event it has pledged to plant a tree for every try scored in all 61 matches across the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments.
