It followed the announcement last month that the Swedish capital would serve as the main host city during the Championships with Herning in Denmark serving as the co-host. 

As well as the final, Stockholm will host all of Sweden’s group games, two of the quarter-finals, a semi-final and the bronze medal playoff.

The Avicii Globe, originally known as Stockholm Globe Arena when it opened in 1989 and previously as Ericsson Globe is the world’s largest spherical building.

It has previously hosted IIHF World Championship matches in 1989 and 1995 and also been used by a number of Sweden’s leading ice hockey teams.

It was renamed after the late DJ Avicii in May 2021, and can also serve as a music venue, hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in 2000 and 2016.

The Swedish Ice Hockey Association claimed the decision to select Stockholm followed a thorough selection process after interest from a number of cities.

Chairman Anders Larsson wants the tournament to be known as "The World’s Most Engaging Ice Hockey World Cup" in 2025.

Herning is due host the matches in one of the groups and two quarter-finals.

The Jyske Bank Boxen Arena in the city also hosted matches in the 2018 World Championship.

Canada are the current holders of the men’s IIHF World Championship, winning their 27th title in Latvia earlier this year.

Finland, Russia and the Czech Republic are scheduled to host the next three IIHF World Championships before the event moves to Sweden and Denmark.
