Mica Moore is back in training with the British bobsleigh team as the build-up to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics continues.

Moore and pilot Mica McNeill placed eighth at Pyeongchang 2018 - Britain's best-ever finish in the two-woman discipline.

Following those Games, Moore then stepped away from the sport to study for a degree, but is now back with the British squad and focused on competing at a second consecutive Winter Olympics.

"I was keen to stress back in 2018 that I wasn’t hanging up my ice spikes - it was just that I had really good opportunities to do things outside of sport," said Moore, who has been studying sports broadcasting and media at Cardiff Met University.

"I’m really proud of what I’ve done outside of bobsleigh over the last few years but I love bobsleigh and I love a challenge.

"I’ve worked really hard on improving my speed, improving my strength and improving my mental strength while I’ve been away from the sport and that mental resilience is key to bobsleigh.

"I think I’m in a really good spot right now to push for a place at the Games.

"By no means I am thinking it will be an easy task, but I like pushing myself."

Moore, now 28, helped McNeill win the gold medal at the 2017 Junior Bobsleigh World Championships in Winterberg, whilst their best World Cup finish - fifth - also came in 2017, in Whistler.

Moore also represented Wales in the 4x100 metres relay at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

McNeill has teamed up with Montell Douglas in recent seasons, and their best finish last season was fourth at the first Innsbruck World Cup.

"Mica [Moore] is a fantastic athlete and she has been missed these past few years so I’m very excited for her to be back involved," McNeill said.

"We have kept in touch over the years and she’s always working hard in the gym and on the track, which is great to see.

"I’m excited to see how all my girls compare against each other in September."

McNeil won a Youth Olympic Games silver medal at Innsbruck 2012, being pushed by future European long jump runner-up Jazmin Sawyers.
