TeqPNG was established to serve as the national association for teqball.

The organisation was approved as a member of the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ) last year.

TeqPNG are one of 113 National Federations to be members of FITEQ and one of seven within the Oceania region.

The organisation applied to become a member of PNGOC, with its application approved by the General Assembly after achieving criteria required.

This included establishing a constitution, developing a strategic plan and registration with the Investment Promotion Authority.

"Becoming affiliated to the PNGOC was a key target of ours," TeqPNG President Percy Mataio told the Post Courier.

"We are please to achieve this milestone early on in TeqPNG’s existence and are grateful to the other member national federations for their support.

"We are also please that we will be able to benefit from the support PNGOC provides its members through its capacity development work and our dream it to one day see our teqball players representing the country as part of Team PNG at the Pacific Games Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games."

Teqball can be played with balls used in football, with games either played as singles or doubles contests.

Teqball follows a points-based scoring format and is played over the best of three sets, with each set played until a team reaches 12 points.

The final decisive set must be won by at least a two-point margin.

Several high-profile football players and teams have installed teqball tables.

TeqPNG are hoping to hold its first tournament this month.
