The Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee has launched the sale of tickets for the 2022 World Games in Alabama as part of its one-year-to-go celebrations.

A media event has been held today with chief executive Nick Sellers, chairman of the Board Jonathan Porter and the Mayors of Birmingham and Hoover Randall Woodfin and Frank Brocato.

International World Games Association chief executive Joachim Gossow sent his greetings via a video, as did artists who are putting together the Opening Ceremony.

Mythological mascots were revealed for the Games, with these being named Vulcan and Vesta.

Tickets are now on sale with more information available through the World Games 2022 website.

"This is a major milestone as we begin to reconnect with our community, our state and our world," said Sellers.

"Because one year from today, this very special moment, Birmingham, Alabama will play host to the largest international sporting event in the history of our state and one of the largest international multi-sports events in our country.

"It's the new generation of sports."

Competition is scheduled to take place from July 7 to 17 2022 after the World Games were pushed back a year to avoid a clash with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were also postponed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Joining in the celebrations were the World Squash Federation (WSF) who stressed the importance of the World Games for showcasing squash at a high level of competition, with the sport being part of the programme since 1997.

"The World Games provides a unique window to showcase squash to a global audience and to showcase the incredible skill and athleticism of our best squash players," said WSF President Zena Wooldridge.

The International Floorball Federation outlined its qualification system for the World Games, with seven teams joining hosts the United States in Birmingham.

The five best teams from the 2020 Men's World Floorball Championships - which are to be played from December 3 to 11 later this year - will earn their spot.

Also joining them will be the best-placed American continent team and Asia Oceania team at the Championships.
