Britain’s Hector Pardoe booked his place at Tokyo 2020 by triumphing at the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier at Setubal in Portugal.

Pardoe completed the event in a time of 2 hours, 2min, 7sec to clinch one of the 15 Tokyo 2020 berths on offer.

Greece’s Athanasios Kynigakis finished as runner-up at five seconds down to secure his spot.

Despite finishing in third place on the same time as Kynigakis, Tobias Robinson missed out on a Tokyo 2020 berth.

Robinson was unable to claim the place due to being the second British finisher, with only one spot on offer for each National Federation.

Israel’s Matan Roditi, Australia’s Kai Graeme Edwards, Japan’s Taishun Minamide and Portugal’s Tiago Campos earned Olympic spots.

Places were also claimed by Russia’s Kirill Abrosimov, Ecuador’s David Farinango and London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Oussame Mellouli after they finished in the top 10.

South Africa’s Michael McGlynn and Mexico’s Daniel Delgadillo claimed the remaining direct spots.

Four continental quota places were also awarded at the event.

Czech Republic's Matěj Kozubek and Canada’s Hau-Li Fan secured the European and Americas quota places.

Namibia’s Phillip Seidler and Hong Kong’s William Yan Thorley were the African and Asian quota winners.

The 15 swimmers complete the field for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic competition.

They will join the top 10 swimmers from the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, who had already secured their places at the Games.
