The Club, founded in 1896, is one of the oldest in the West Midlands and is a listed building in Edgbaston Hall set in 144 acres of land on a conservation centre on the prestigious Calthorpe Estate.

Located less than two miles from New Street Station, Birmingham’s main railway station, Edgbaston Golf Club should make the ideal venue for New Zealand’s athletes, family, friends and supporters during the Games due to take place between July 28 and August 9.

The Club is also conveniently close to the Birmingham University Vale site, site of the Commonwealth Games Village.

New Zealand House will run their ticketing, merchandising and VIP and commercial guest programme from the clubhouse, which will also provide a relaxing base for athletes and their friends and family.

The golf course, designed by the renowned architect Harry Colt, will remain open for the Club's members.

“The Club has a very long and illustrious history, but this is an exciting new first for us,” Edgbaston Golf Club chairman Nick George said.

“We are thrilled to be hosting New Zealand's athletes and all their friends, family and sponsors for the duration of the Games.”

New Zealand were represented by more than 250 athletes competing in 17 sports at the last Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast in 2018.

They won a total of 46 medals, including 15 gold.

They are the first country to announce a House for Birmingham 2022.

“The New Zealand team has a culture of manaakitanga - a Maori word that means hospitality,” New Zealand Olympic Committee Kereyn Smith said.

“It is all about making travellers feel welcome when visiting New Zealand. 

“We look forward to extending our manaakitanga to all visitors to our House at the Edgbaston Club in Birmingham.”
