Senegal, silver medallists at the last African Women’s Handball Championship, underlined their medal potential with a 32-20 win over a talented Guinea team on day three of the delayed 24th edition in Cameroon.

Victory at the Yaoundé Multipurpose Sports Complex put the team beaten 19-14 by Angola in the 2018 final top of Group C with two wins and a guaranteed place in the quarter-finals.

Earlier in the evening the other Group A match had seen Madagascar, making their first appearance in this competition, beaten 44-16 by Tunisia, the 2014 champions, who thus assured themselves of a place in the last eight.

That match was followed by a Group C game in which Cape Verde, another team making their debuts in the tournament, were beaten 34-23 by the Republic of the Congo, who won bronze the last time this event took place in 2018.

Congo are also guaranteed a place in the quarter-finals along with defending champions Angola, with the position in the draw being decided by the meeting of the two on Sunday (July 13).
