Hosts Mexico, the United States and Brazil each won four gold medals at the Pan American Taekwondo Championships in Cancún.

Brandon Plaza won the men's under-58 kilograms title for the home side at the Hotel Barceló Riviera Maya, after beating Jefferson Ochoa of Colombia in the final.

Carlos Navarro also topped the podium on home soil, winning the men's under-63kg final against Alejandro Chang of the US.

In the men's under-74kg, René Lizárraga came out on top for the hosts after a win over Puerto Rico's Luis Colon, while Daniela Souza won the women's under-49kg final against Camila Rodríguez of Colombia.

The US were able to match the Mexicans and came away with four golds of their own.

Melvy Álvarez beat home fighter César Rodríguez to win the men's under-54kg crown and Alan Nickolas was the men's under-80kg winner after seeing off Colombia's Miguel Trejos.

In the women's under-53kg, Makayla Greenwood got the better of Leonor Dias of Brazil in the final and Madelynn Gorman-Shore won the women's under-73kg class with victory over Mexico's former Olympic champion María Espinoza.

Brazil's golden haul included Ícaro Miguel Soares winning the men's under-87kg final against Mexico's Bryan Salazar.

Caroline Santos won the women's under-62kg final against American Anastasija Zolotic and Milena Titoneli was the women's under-67kg winner over Mexico's Victoria Heredia.

In another Brazil v Mexico final, Gabriele Siqueira won the women's over-73kg by beating Briseida Acosta.

Colombia went home with a pair of titles, with David Paz taking the spoils in the men's under-68kg final against Mexico's Iker Casas.

Andrea Ramírez was the women's under-46kg champion after seeing off Mexico's Brenda Costa Rica.

Canada topped a podium thanks to Skylar Park's victory in the women's under-57kg against Sandy Macedo of Brazil.

There was also success for Cuba, with double world champion Rafael Alba taking the men's heavyweight over-87kg crown over American Jonathan Healy.
