The Brazilian Ice Sports Federation has been granted full membership of the International Skating Union (ISU) Speed Skating Branch.

It was already a full member of the ISU's Figure Skating Branch.

Full membership of the Speed Skating Branch was granted by the ISU Council at an online meeting on June 3.

The Speed Skating Branch also gained a provisional member on the same day, with the Winter Sports Federation of Portugal.

The additional of Portugal means the ISU now lists 78 member nations.

Nils van der Poel's men's 10,000 metres world record of 12min 32.95sec was additionally homologated by the Council.

The Swede set that mark at the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Heerenveen in February.

The next online meeting of the ISU Council has been set for July 16.
