David Schmude has stepped down as chair of the UniSport Australia Board after three years in the role, and been replaced by Chris Massey.

Schmude - who is also the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Oceania President, and will continue in that role - had been on the UniSport Australia Board since 2016, becoming chair in 2020.

New chair Massey has been a Board member since 2017 and is student life director at the University of Western Australia (UWA), as well as deputy chair of the UWA Critical Incident Team.

"David’s tenure on the Board is recognised as being over a period of change for UniSport where he was instrumental in the recruitment of current CEO, Mark Sinderberry, implementation of the Nationals event format and University Basketball League, and in leading UniSport through the COVID-19 pandemic,” Massey commented.

Board members serve two-year terms and there are eight at present, plus chief executive Sinderberry.

"I feel very honoured to have served on the Unisport Australia Board," said Schmude, who is chief executive of the University of New England’s UNE Life headquarters.

UNE Life is the body in charge of the student experience and related services at the university in New South Wales.

"I would like to thank our members and my fellow directors for their support over the years during my term," Schmude continued.

"I would especially like to thank, Mark and the staff of UniSport Australia for their dedication and service to the organisation and to our members.

"I look forward to supporting UniSport Australia and our members in the future."
