Two Russian Federation athletes tied the world record in the men’s 100 metres T35 on a second day that saw plenty of records set at the European Para Athletics Championships in Bydgoszcz.

Dmitrii Safronov and Artem Kalashian of the Russian Federation both finished the men’s 100 metres T35 in a time of 11.77sec, equalling the world record set by Ukraine’s Ihor Tsvietov in Dubai in 2019.

A photo finish was required to split the two Russian Federation athletes, with Safronov claiming gold and Kalashian earning silver, while Tsvietov took the bronze medal in 11.90.

A second world record fell in the second event of the day, the men’s club throw F51 final, with Zelko Dimitrijevic of Serbia victorious in 34.71 metres.

Twelve championship records were also set - with the first coming in the women’s long jump T11 final where Yuliia Pavlenko of Ukraine was victorious with a jump of 4.91m.

A second championship record went the way of a Ukrainian athlete in the men’s javelin throw F37/38, with Vladyslav Bilyi winning with a throw of 52.29.

Britain’s Maria Lyle triumphed in the women’s 200m T35, as she recorded a comfortable win in a championship record of 30.75.

The final championship record of the morning session came in the women’s shot put F40, with Renata Sliwinska of Poland victorious in 8.75.

The first championship record of the evening session was in the men’s shot put F34, with victory going to Evgenii Malykh of the Russian Federation in 11.00.

In the women’s discus throw F11/12 a championship record went to Turkey’s Busra Nur Tirikli in 34.12.

In the men’s 200m T51 world champion and world record holder Peter Genyn of Belgium retained his European title in Poland in a championship record time of 39.01.

An impressive day for the Russian Federation continued in the men’s 1500m T46 with victory going to Aleksandr Iaremchuk in a championship record of 3min 51.91sec.

Switzerland’s Marcel Hug won his seventh European title with the latest championship record in the men’s 1500m T54 in 3:00.37.

Oleksandr Yarovyi of Ukraine won the men’s shot put F20 final in a championship record of 16.77.  

Two more championship records fell on the track - in the men’s 400m T38 courtesy of Anton Feoktistov of the Russian Federation in 51.70, and in the men’s 100m T63 by Daniel Wagner of Denmark in 12.37.

Gold medals also went to athletes from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Spain, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

After two days of competition, the Russian Federation top the medal table with 13 golds, nine silvers and eight bronzes giving them a total of 30 medals.
