Salt Lake City in the United States is poised to host two stages of the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup season in the space of eight days.

The season is set to resume tomorrow after last month’s opener in Meiringen in Switzerland where Janja Garnbret of Slovenia and the Czech Republic's Adam Ondra won the respective women's and men's bouldering events.

Climbers will now head to Salt Lake City for back-to-back events with the first due to be held from tomorrow until May 22 and the second from May 28 to 30.

Nathaniel Coleman, Kyra Condie, Colin Duffy and Brooke Raboutou will hope to deliver home success after being named as part of the US team.

There will also be competitors from China, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Serbia, Russia, Slovenia, Belgium, France, South Africa, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Ukraine, Canada, Israel and Japan.

Athletes will use the events to help with their preparations for Tokyo 2020, where sport climbing is due to make its debut at the Games.

The Industry SLC outdoor venue is set to hold a maximum of 3,000 spectators each day with face masks required at all times and social distancing guidelines in place as part of the organisers’ COVID-19 countermeasures.

Bouldering qualification for women and men is due to be held tomorrow with the semi-finals and finals scheduled to take place on Saturday (May 22).
