Sweden remain as the only unbeaten team at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Scotland after a busy day of games saw the standings tighten up in both groups as the round-robin stage passed the halfway mark.

Heading into day three in Aberdeen five teams held unbeaten records including Sweden and the United States in Group B.

With the two countries facing each other in the second session of the day only one of those records would remain intact, and it was Sweden who came out on top winning 7-5, helped by them scoring three shots in end four.

Sweden followed up their win over the US with a 9-2 victory against England in the evening.

Norway sit behind their Scandinavian rivals in Group B with four wins and one loss after an 8-6 victory over China followed by a 7-1 win against Estonia later in the day.

Behind them four teams are in a tie for third with three wins and two losses - Japan, New Zealand, Switzerland and the United States.

Japan won both their games today beating Switzerland 9-6 and China 8-6, New Zealand edged out Estonia 7-6 and Finland 6-4, while Switzerland followed their defeat to Japan by beating the US 8-3.

The four remaining teams in the group – China, England, Estonia and Finland all have one win and four defeats so far.

In Group A it is also tight at the top with Canada, Italy and Scotland jointly leading with four wins and one loss.

Canada, Czech Republic and Scotland started the day’s play with unbeaten records but they all lost those in the opening session with Canada losing 8-5 to Australia, Scotland being edged out 7-6 by the Russian Curling Federation and the Czech Republic narrowly beaten by the same scoreline by Hungary.

Canada bounced back by beating Korea 8-3 while Scotland overcame the Czech Republic 7-5.

Italy recorded two wins on the day, against Germany 9-6 and then later against Hungary 6-5 to join Canada and Scotland at the top of the standings.

Germany and the Czech Republic sit just behind the three teams at the top, with the Germans beating Spain 9-2 in their second game of the day.

Behind them are Hungary, Korea and the Russian Curling Federation with two wins and three losses, followed by Australia with one win and four defeats and Spain, who have lost all five games they have played so far.

Action is scheduled to continue tomorrow with four more sessions of round-robin play, with each team due to play a further two matches.
