Austria’s Corinna Kuhnle and Czech Republic’s Vit Prindis were crowned K1 winners at the European Canoe Association (ECA) Canoe Slalom European Championships in Ivera.

Kuhnle emerged as the winner of a tightly contested women’s race, triumphing by a narrow margin over Slovenia’s Eva Tercelj.

Both kayakers completed the final without receiving penalties.

Kuhnle topped the podium after completing the event in a time of 1min 31.42sec.

Her effort was just 0.47 seconds faster than Tercelj, who was left settling for the silver medal.

The podium places were completed by Germany’s Ricarda Funk, the 2018 European champion.

Funk was left ruing four penalty seconds received during her run, as the 29-year-old ended just 3.92 behind the winner.

The men’s event saw Prindis win the European title for the second time in his career.

The Czech kayaker completed the final in a time of 1:21.90 to win the competition, with the top five having avoided penalties on their runs.

Italy’s Giovanni De Gennaro finished as the runner-up at 0.75 down, with Slovenia’s Peter Kauzer completing the top three at 1.02 behind the winner.

Czech Republic’s Vavinez Hradilek and Austria’s Mario Leitner also produced clean runs, but ended 4.16 and 4.50 off the pace set by Prindis.

The European Championships will conclude tomorrow with men’s and women’s C1 events held, along with extreme slalom competitions.
