The event was held online with officials from the Brazilian Olympic Committee among those participating.

CPB President Mizael Conrado, a two-time Paralympic champion in five-a-side football, said the event marked the latest step in meeting improved governance standards in sport.

"With the advances in sport in recent years, with the advent of Law 9.615 [known as the Pelé Law] and the Agnelo Piva Law, it was necessary for the Paralympic Movement to comply with the Compliance rules and, especially, with the Governance principles, as transparency, institutional responsibility and equity," said Conrado.

"And the moment today inaugurates a new phase and a new model in the management of CPB.

"A professionally instituted Board of Directors will create conditions to make much healthier transitions."

The CPB confirmed the re-election of Ângelo Alves Neto, President of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation for the Disabled (CBVD), and Simone Camargo Rocha, President of the CPB Athletes Council, to the organisation’s Board of Directors.

Arthur Achôa, Bibiana Carneiro and Thomas Brull were elected as independent members of the Board.

Brull spoke at the forum on the topic of "Governance for Results", while Achôa presented on theme of "Integrity and Compliance".

Carneiro discussed the importance of diversity on boards.

"I am honoured to be part of this Board with such interesting, competent and special professionals," said Carneiro.

"A Board of Directors basically has two functions: the supervision of management and the creation of long-term value.

"And diversity and heterogeneity is super important for these processes to be well conducted.

"And it is important to note that diversity is not just about gender, but is also related to ethnicity, nationalities, education, personal disabilities, age group, among other factors."

The CPB also announced at the forum that it had agreed to renew a sponsorship agreement with financial services company Caixa Econômica Federal for another Paralympic cycle.
