Morocco’s national taekwondo team are looking to step up their preparations for this year’s African Championships.

Sixteen athletes came together in Moroccan city Agadir for a training camp which is due to run until April 27.

According to the Moroccan newspaper Le Matin, the national team will work under the supervision of national technical director Philip Boydou.

Trainers Murad Al-Sabbagh, Amin Rakeeza, Bader Samaeli, and Fawzi Al-Rashid will also look to put athletes through their paces.

The camp is being held to prepare the team for the African Championships which is scheduled to be held in Senegalese capital Dakar on June 5 and 6.

It is also set to play a key role in fine tuning athletes that are set to represent Morocco at this year’s rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Achraf Mahboubi, Oumaima El-Bouchti and Nada Laaraj booked their places at the Games after coming through last year’s African Qualification Tournament in Rabat.

The trio will look to end Morocco’s long wait for an Olympic medal in the sport.

Morocco has won 23 Olympic medals including 19 in athletics and four in boxing.

Wiam Dislam produced Morocco’s best showing in taekwondo at Rio 2016 when she came fifth in the women’s over-67 kilogram category.
