With the Games set to take place in the nation's capital Accra, Ussif spoke at the Ghana Basketball Conference on video conference platform Zoom, mentioning the Government's commitment to support lesser-financed sports in the country.

He also mentioned plans to revive high school competitions to develop sporting talent for Ghana.

Ussif's plans for a basketball court will not only cater to basketball, but other indoor sports disciplines.

"We have the opportunity of hosting the African Games come 2023, and basketball and 24 other sporting disciplines are going to be competed for so it is now incumbent on us as a country to make sure that we have an international standard basketball court not only for basketball, but also for other sporting disciplines that we are going to be competing for," said Ussif.

"Currently, the Organising Committee has been inaugurated and we are working on it."

Accra is set to host the 13th edition of the Games, after it was awarded the hosting rights in October 2018.

Rabat in Morocco hosted the 2019 edition.

It will be the first time Ghana hosts the competition, which held its inaugural event in 1965 in Brazzaville in the Republic of the Congo.

Basketball has been part of the African Games programme at every edition to date.

Angola and Egypt have both won four African Games titles in men's basketball, while Senegal is the dominant nation in the women's competition with seven gold medals.
