Technical contests in women’s solo, women’s duet, women’s team and mixed duet as well as a women’s team free combined competition are scheduled to be held at the Duna Area tomorrow.

Free routines are then set to take centre stage on Sunday (April 11) with the women’s duet, mixed duet, women’s solo and women’s team competitions.

The event is taking place after the first leg was held virtually in late February as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

USA Artistic Swimming broadcast two days of pre-recorded routines on its own website and FINA TV.

Bill May of the United States and Jacqueline Simoneau of Canada won the men’s and women’s free solo events, while American duo Lindi Schroeder and Anita Alvarez triumphed in both the technical duet and free technical duet competitions.

There was also double delight for Spanish pair Emma Garcia and Pau Ribes who were first victorious in the technical mixed duet before winning the free mixed duet.

The event in Budapest is set to be held in a bio-secure bubble in a bid to protect athletes from coronavirus.

According to the International Swimming Federation (FINA) COVID-19 guidelines, participants will be asked to present a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours before travelling to the Hungarian capital, which also hosted Water Polo World League matches last month.

They are then expected to undergo a further test upon arrival before being tested again during the competition.

Kazan in Russia is due to stage the third leg of the World Series from April 16 to 18.

FINA has cancelled the fourth leg, scheduled to be held in French capital Paris from April 23 to 25.

Canada is expected to stage a virtual leg from May 29 to 30 before the last ordinary leg is due to take place in Alexandroupolis in Greece from June 4 to 6.

The World Series is set to conclude with the super final in Barcelona in Spain from June 11 to 13.
