More than 1,300 apartments are set to be used by the 41 countries attending the Games and will turned into social housing in the Cerrillos district of the city after the event.

This initiative is part of the social and territorial integration projects of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism of Chile.

President of Chile Sebastián Piñera and the Santiago 2023 Organising Committee see the Athletes' Village as an important part of the city's legacy after the Games.

The Village is set to accommodate more than 8,000 athletes and coaching staff and is considering two lots for housing development.

A pedestrian promenade is also being considered, which would look to connect the area to the subway system.

It is part of the the "Ciudad Parque Bicentenario" - or "Bicentennial Park City" in English - urban-housing project promoted by the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism that covers an area of 250 hectares. 

It is expected that one of the lots from the Village will be owned by the Metropolitan Ministry of Housing and Urbanism in Santiago.

Ciudad Parque Bicentenario is located in the south-west of Santiago in the Cerrillos district.

In 20 years the area aims to house around 16,800 families, resulting in the housing of roughly 60,000 people.

In the second half of 2021, work is expected to start on the construction of the Athletes' Village.

This will begin once feasibility, building and environmental permits have been obtained.

The maximum construction time for the Santiago 2023 Athletes' Villages is set at 24 months.

The Santiago 2023 Pan American Games are scheduled to take place from October 20 to November 5 2023, with the Parapan American Games in the city scheduled from November 17 to 25.
