Russia claimed two gold medals on the final day at the United World Wrestling European Olympic Games qualification event at the BOK Hall in Budapest, Hungary.

Action took place across the men’s 60 kilograms, 67kg, 77kg, 87kg, 97kg and 130kg categories, although not all contests were decided on the mat with a large number of injury defaults.

Wrestlers that had reached the gold medal fights in each category had already secured their places at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, with today’s encounters deciding the winners of the gold, silver and bronze medals in each discipline.

In the 60kg category, the gold medal fight saw Turkey’s Kerem Kamal beat Etienne Kinsinger of Germany 5-1.

Both bronze medallists were decided without fights taking place, with Ivan Lizatovic of Croatia beating Murad Mammadov of Azerbaijan by injury default and Irakli Dzimistarishvili of Georgia defeating Erik Torba of Hungary by forfeit.

There were more injury defaults in the 67kg category, with Ramaz Zoidze of Georgia winning gold by that means against Balint Korpasi of Hungary.

Bronze went to Ukraine’s Artur Politaiev of Ukraine by injury default against Slavik Galstyan of Armenia while Deyvid Tihomirov Dimitrov of Bulgaria won his bronze on the mat beating Donior Islamov of Moldova 9-7.

The pattern of injury defaults continued in the 77kg category, with that means responsible for deciding the outcome of all three contests.

Gold went to Aleksandr Chekhirkin of Russia against Bozo Starcevic of Croatia, while injury withdrawals also led to Viktor Nemes of Serbia and Sanan Suleymanov of Azerbaijan picking up bronzes at the expense of Aik Mnatsakanian of Bulgaria and Oldrich Varga of the Czech Republic.

In the 87kg category, injury default led to Islam Abbasov of Azerbaijan picking up gold at the expense of Lasha Gobadze of Georgia.

One bronze medal was decided on the mat with Daniel Aleksandrov of Bulgaria beating Ramon Betschart of Switzerland 5-1.

The second bronze medal went to Metehan Basar of Turkey who defeated Milad Valerikovitch Alirzaev of Russia by injury default.

In the 97kg category, Arvi Martin Savolainen of Finland defeated Kiril Milov of Bulgaria by injury default.

Bronze medals went to Alex Gergo Szoke of Hungary and Pontus Johan Lund of Sweden at the expense of Artur Omarov of the Czech Republic and Nikoloz Kakhelashvili of Italy.

The 130kg category was the only one of the final night where all three medals were decided on the mat.

Gold went to Sergey Semonov of Russia who triumphed 5-1 over Mantas Knystautas of Lithuania.

Bronze medals went to Adam Varga of Hungary, who beat Radoslav Plamenov Georgiev of Bulgaria 3-1, and Rafal Andrzej Krajewski of Poland who defeated Marko Koscevic of Croatia 11-5.

More Tokyo 2020 places are due to be decided at the African and Oceania Olympic Qualifier, scheduled to take place in Hammamet, Tunisia, from April 2 to 4.
