Italy, Japan and Mongolia all struck gold on the second day of competition at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Tashkent Grand Slam in Uzbekistan.

Italy's Christian Parlati stopped Sharofiddin Boltaboev winning his second straight Grand Slam event this year, defeating the Uzbek in the men's 81 kilogram final.

Both are rising stars hoping to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Takanori Nagase of Japan and Sami Chouchi of Belgium won the bronze medals.

Parlati's victory over former world champion Nagase was one of the shocks of the day.

Mongolia's Tsogtbaatar Tsend-Ochir made it a second gold medal for his nation this weekend with a victory in the men's 73kg.

His win follows on from compatriot Munkhbat Urantsetseg yesterday in the women's 48kg.

Tsend-Ochir defeated Kazakhstan's Zhansay Smagulov in the final, while Ferdinand Karapetian of Armenia and Azerbaijan's Rustam Orujov won the bronze medals.

Four-time world medallist Miku Tashiro emerged as the champion in the women's 63kg, having defeated Andreja Leški of Slovenia in the final.

Leški won her second Grand Slam silver medal in a row following her final appearance in Tel Aviv in February, but did not have enough to defeat the Japanese star.

Britain's Amy Livesey and Venezuela's Anriquelis Barrios claimed the bronze medals.

Finally, two-time individual world champion Chizuru Arai continued her preparations for the Olympics with a victory in the women's 70kg final against Barbara Matic of Croatia.

Venezuela's Elvismar Rodriguez and Gulnoza Matniyazova of Uzbekistan also secured the bronze medals.

Tomorrow sees five more weight classes due to be contested on the final day of action in the Uzbek capital.
