CPISRA will investigate a potential merger with IWAS ©CPISRA

The Cerebral Palsy International Sports and Recreation Association (CPISRA) Board is set to continue its discussions over merger with the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS).

The CPISRA Board received permission from members to look into joining with the IWAS at the organisation’s General Assembly, held virtually for the first time.

CPISRA President Craig Carscadden said feedback from members suggested the format proved successful and hinted a virtual meeting could be held again in the future.

Carscadden said one of the highlights of the General Assembly was the decision from members to give the CPISRA Board a mandate to continue discussions with IWAS over a potential merger.

A new constitution was also approved at the meeting.

CPISRA said the constitution will allow the organisation to become a Scottish Charities Incorporated Organisation.

The Cerebral Palsy Sports Federation of India and Malta Sport were ratified as two new members of the organisation.

Four new CPISRA Board members were confirmed at the meeting, with Julian Rebollo Martinez becoming a vice-president.

Brett Copper has been named CPISRA secretary, with Cathie Sherrington and Harry Jan Keizer set to serve as members at large.

CPISRA has also welcomed confirmation that the organisation will receive a COVID-19 recovery grant from the International Paralympic Committee.

"This grant must be spent on digitalising our training and awareness courses and translating them into languages other than English," said Carscadden.

"We have not settled on the languages the training will be available in, but they are likely to be in French, Spanish, Arabic and at least one of the South Asian languages."

CPISRA said the educational material will be free to use for members.
