France's Jeanne Richard and Russia's Denis Irodov have won the women's and men's individual world titles at the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Youth World Championships in Obertilliach in Austria.

Richard was a clear winner in the women's 10 kilometre individual, winning in a time of 32min 18.8sec.

Slovenia's Lena Repinc finished 32.7 seconds behind to win the silver medal, with four shooting penalties to Richard's two.

Slovakia's Ema Kapustova completed the podium, making up for slower skiing with perfect target accuracy, more than a minute behind Richard.

She was just able to hold off Sweden's Sara Andersson by 0.5 seconds, who had to take two penalty laps.

Belarus' Yuliya Kavaleuskaya completed the top five more than 30 seconds behind Andersson.

In the men's 12.5km individual, Irodov completed the course in a time of 36:35.6, with a similar gap to second as there was during the women's race.

Edgar Geny of France and Leon Kienesberger of Austria took the battle for silver down to the line, with the Frenchman emerging victorious, despite having to take three penalty laps to the Austrian's two.

Geny was 32.4 seconds behind Irodov and just 0.3 ahead of Kienesberger.

Belarus' Andrei Haurosh and Benjamin Menz of Germany were within a minute of the winner in fourth and fifth respectively.
