Luchini crossed the finish line in 46.82sec as he saw off the challenge of Britain’s James Barnes-Miller, Russia’s Mikhail Slinkin and Japan’s Masataka Oiwane in the big final.

Barnes-Miller, who feared he might not make the start gate after sustaining a shoulder injury over the Christmas period, clinched silver in 47.48.

The bronze medal went to Slinkin in 48.83, while Oiwane just missed on a podium place in 49.98.

The small final saw Riccardo Cardani come out on top to take fifth spot overall in 52.38 ahead of fellow Italian Mirko Moro in 52.70.

Japan’s veteran snowboarder Daichi Oguri rolled back the years to secure gold in the men’s SB-LL1 class.

The 40-year-old clinched victory in 52.48, with Paralympic silver medallist Chris Vos of The Netherlands finishing in second in 52.46.

Kristian Moen of Norway clocked 52.25 to claim bronze ahead of Japan’s Junta Kosuda in 52.97.

Tyler Burdick of the United States came fifth in 54.13 while Rene Eckhart of Austria completed the top six in 58.99.

Australia’s Ben Tudhope, last season’s overall crystal global winner, won the men's SB-LL2 big final in 45.68.

The 21-year-old saw off Finland’s Matti Surr-Hamari in 44.93 and American Evan Strong in 45.96.

Keiji Okamato of Japan came fourth in 47.89, while British pair Owen Pick and Ollie Hill finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Competition is scheduled to continue tomorrow with more snowboard cross races.
