The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) has launched a new national ranking system for players in the country.

The rankings are based on the open ranking tournaments played in the last two months to determine the best-performing players.

Team Resilience, Checkmate and Adbhut Esports have topped the individual categories in the national rankings for the games Call of Duty Mobile (Battle Royale), FreeFire and Valorant.

There were 60, 65 and 26 open matches in the three games, respectively, during the period of November to December 2020.

"With esports being included as a medal event at the 2022 Asian Games among other major championships, it is important that we follow all the necessary requirements like in any other medal sports to determine the best players of the country," said ESFI director Lokesh Suji.

"In the month of November and December, we organised several scrims and there have been huge responses in these events.

"While the gamers showcased great technique and were competitive, each scrim was keenly contested before the champions were declared."

Seven-member Team Resilience sits top of the Call of Duty (Mobile) category with 682 points ahead of Team Revolution on 629 and Zelotz 2EZ on 627.

Checkmate has 111 points at the top of the FreeFire rankings and Adbhut Esports has 78 points at the top of the Valorant category.

"Creating a pool of credible national gamers is a key responsibility that ESFI intends to shoulder in order to initiate and streamline a professional approach towards playing and organising tournaments that are played in India," added Suji.

"The athletes will help to maintain a certain standard of play, it will also regulate the esports ecosystem."

Games such as Pro Evolution Soccer, FIFA, DOTA 2 and Clash Royale could be added to the national rankings categories in future, according to the EFSI.
