Weather conditions have forced organisers to amend the schedule for the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

This weekend’s competition had been due to begin with a downhill event tomorrow.

Organisers and the race jury met today to assess the conditions of the slope and the current weather situation at the German venue.

A decision was reached to cancel today’s training session and tomorrow’s downhill event.

A super-G race is due to be held tomorrow as a replacement.

The World Cup event is scheduled to conclude with the planned super-G race on Sunday (January 31).

Switzerland’s Lara Gut-Behrami will hope to benefit from the additional super-G competition, as she currently tops the discipline’s World Cup standings.

Gut-Behrami has won two of the three super-G races contested so far this season, with the other won by the Czech Republic’s Ester Ledecká.

Ledecká is among the skiers seeking to close the gap to the leader of the super-G World Cup standings.

Switzerland’s Corinne Suter currently lies second in the standings, after she recorded second and third place finishes in the opening two races.
