Guinea and Zambia were the last two sides to book their places in the African Nations Championship quarter-finals, after both drew their concluding Group D games today.

Guinea’s 2-2 draw with Tanzania was enough to see Guinea top the group on goal difference, with the result eliminating their opponents from the competition.

Meanwhile, Zambia drew 0-0 with Namibia with the point earned in that match enough to see them through to the last eight.

An entertaining match at the Stade de la Reunification in Douala saw Guinea come from behind to secure a point that was enough for them to top the group.

Guinea got off to the perfect start as they took the lead courtesy of a fourth-minute penalty from Yakhouba Barry.

Tanzania levelled the contest midway through the first half as Baraka Majogoro scored with an impressive volley from outside the box to make it 1-1.

Midway through the second period Tanzania took the lead as Edward Manyama headed in to make it 2-1.

Guinea dominated as they pushed for a leveller which came with eight minutes to go when Victor Kantabadouno headed in from a cross to make it 2-2.

The point enough to secure Guinea their place in the last eight as group winners, with Tanzania missing out.

In the night’s other match, played at the Stade de Limbe, Zambia got the point required to ensure their progression in the tournament, exclusively for African footballers who compete domestically.

Zambia and their opponents Namibia both teams playing positively, with the Chipolopolos having the better of the chances.

Neither side could break the deadlock and the goalless draw ensured Zambia went through in second place in the group.

Following two rest days, the quarter-finals are scheduled to get underway on Saturday (January 30).

Group A winners Mali will play Group B runners-up Congo in Yaounde while Group B winners DR Congo face Group A runners-up and tournament hosts Cameroon in Douala.

The remaining two quarter-finals are scheduled for Sunday (January 31) with Group C winners and defending champions Morocco up against Zambia in Douala and Guinea facing Group C runners-up Rwanda in Limbe.
