The European University Sports Association (EUSA) has announced its annual awards ceremony will be staged virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The online event is due to take place on February 11, lasting for up to an hour, and will celebrate the best in university sport and the wider sporting community, acknowledging their success over the past 18 months.

Five annual awards will be presented based on the results and performances of universities, associations and individuals during the 15th season of the European Universities Championships in 2019.

The prizes include the Most Active National University Sports Association, the Most Successful NUSA, the Best University, the Most Active University as well as the Enno Harms Fair Play Award.

Four special awards will also be given out along with an Order of Merit.

The ceremony will allow attendees to relive the action of both the European Universities Championships and the FISU World University Games.

There is also set to be a sneak preview of what is in store at the fifth edition of the European Universities Games in Belgrade in Serbia, scheduled to take place from July 14 to 27 this year.

A statement from EUSA said: "Due to the current global pandemic, the annual EUSA Gala was unfortunately not able to take place together with the EUSA General Assembly in Yerevan in Armenia.

"However, the achievements of all the deserving award winners who have made an immense contribution to EUSA and the European University Sports movement will still be recognised."
