The IWBF Europe Competitions Commission met online to determine the fate of the EuroCup, having decided late notice of cancellation would likely cause financial problems for the hosts and competing teams. 

IWBF Europe President Walter Pfaller and secretary general Petr Tuček were among those in attendance. 

It was decided to cancel the EuroCup as a result of the continuing uncertainty surrounding the global health crisis. 

"Remembering that IWBF Europe’s focus must be to protect the health and wellbeing of athletes, team staff, international technical officials, event staff and all others involved in our sport, and understanding that the coronavirus situation is still unpredictable, the Competitions Commission decided that it would not be possible to continue with the plans for EuroCup 2021," an IWBF Europe statement said. 

The preliminary round of the EuroCup was cancelled in October due to the impact of the pandemic, with IWBF Europe then revealing plans to hold the main event in some form in April and May.

Clubs were given until December 1 to withdraw from the 2021 EuroCup without penalty.

In total, 32 teams had remained willing to participate in the tournament. 

The EuroCup is traditionally held over four weekends, split into Champions League preliminary rounds, EuroLeague preliminary rounds, EuroLeague Finals plus Champions League quarter-finals, and the Champions League Final Four.
