Braathen sustained a knee injury at the Alpine World Cup in Adelboden on Friday (January 8), with the Norwegian crashing when crossing the finish line on his second slalom run.

Braathen was stretchered away and taken to hospital, with the 20-year-old confirmed to have sustained ligament damage.

Marc Strauss, doctor for the alpine national team, told Norwegian website Nettavisen that Braathen will miss the remainder of the season.

"The rehabilitation period after such an injury is normally between six and nine months," Strauss said.

"He is a young man and dedicated.

"I think it will go well."

Team-mate Atle Lie McGrath also sustained a knee injury at the event, but is believed to be facing a shorter spell on the sidelines.

McGrath could face six weeks out with a strained ligament.

Swiss Ski also provided an update on the condition of Mauro Caviezel, who suffered a severe concussion in a fall on Thursday (January 7) during training.

Caviezel, who earned a maiden World Cup win last month, also sustained a ligament injury and a bone bruise in his left knee.

"I now need a bit of rest and then I will start the rehab in the Altius Clinic and with my therapist Rolf Fischer," Caviezel said.

"I will do everything I can to be at the start again this winter."

Concerns were also raised on Saturday (January 9) for American skier Tommy Ford, who suffered a heavy crash in Adelboden.

Ford was airlifted to hospital.

An update from US Ski and Snowboard revealed Ford’s head and neck injuries were minor and resolving nicely.

The national governing body said Ford had sustained a knee injury, which was undergoing further evaluation.
